When a player bets on the numbers marked as a single wager it is a straight ticket betting. The simplest way to play is to make a straight ticket bet, but a lot of players don't like it. If a chosen number is used in all combinations marked it is called the king and a king ticket bet is made this way. If a player marks several number groupings and plays combinations of them he makes a combination ticket bet. The player payout depends on how many numbers the player choses and how many numbers are "hit", multiplied by the proportion of the player's original wager to the “base rate” of the paytable. Your payout will be greater if most of your chosen numbers hit. The probability of a player hitting all 20 numbers on a 20 spot ticket is approximately 1 in 3.5 quintillion. When all the 20 numbers are known, the winning tickets are paid. The payouts differ in defferent casinos. If you have, for example, a four-spot ticket, you are paid 1:1 if 2 numbers hit, 1:5 if 3 numbers hit and 1:120! if all the 4 numbers hit. The payouts at other casinos will more often than not differ. Because of the variation, no payback percentage is common enough to be called average.

A lottery-like or bingo-like gambling game played at modern casinos is called keno. There is a circular glass enclosure called a "bubble" containing 80 ping pong-like balls which determine the balldraw result in keno. Numbers from 1 to 80 are imprinted on each ball. A blower pushes air into the bubble and mixes the balls during the balldraw. A "caller" presses a lever opening a tube, where the balls lift one at a time into a "V" shaped tube called the "rabbit ears". Each of 20 balls drawn are recorded by the caller and a "verifier" and all wagers based on the numbers drawn are calculated by the computerized keno system. One can choose any numbers on a a blank keno ticket form and mark them with an "X". 20 balls at random are drawn only after the players wagers are placed. Every casino has its "paytables" - series of pay scale choices. The more numbers drawn match the numbers selected on the ticket the more the player is paid. There is a wide range of keno paytables from casino to casino and a large deviation in the house edge set for each of those paytables. Two identical keno paytables can hardly be found. The house edge ranges from less than 4% to 66%.
